TL;DR

  • The first trackway of a full-grown Tyrannosaurus rex has been discovered in southwestern North Dakota.
  • The trackway consists of four connected footprints, each about 3 feet long, found on U.S. Forest Service land.
  • Researchers estimate the T. rex was walking at 3.5 to 4.5 mph, despite weighing over seven tons.
  • The discovery provides rare behavioral insights, unlike isolated footprint finds.
  • The tracks date to approximately 66.5 million years ago, near the end of the Cretaceous period.
  • Three of the four footprints are scheduled to be airlifted to the Denver Museum of Nature & Science.
