When Ukrainian humanitarian parolees (UHPs) began arriving in the United States in 2022, many carried only a suitcase, a passport, and the hope of safety after fleeing a war that would eventually devastate their homes and futures. They arrived believing America would provide security for themselves and their children.

Charissa Trahms is a program officer at World Relief. As an initial resettlement case manager, she listened to the stories of almost 500 Ukrainians who fled the war between 2022 and 2023 and assisted them in navigating their first 90 days in America.
