TL;DR
- The Extractor is an Indonesian action thriller starring and directed by Iko Uwais as a soldier named Timur.
- The film's plot involves rescuing researchers taken hostage in the jungle by an armed group.
- It contrasts intense action, particularly hand-to-hand combat, with sentimental flashbacks to characters' childhoods.
- Unique visual elements include interactions between the natural world and military hardware.
- The original title, Timur, means "east" in Indonesian and connotes hopefulness, a feeling the article suggests is a key part of the film's identity.
