PresidentDonald Trumpannounced pardons for two Alaska diesel mechanics during a midterm rally Tuesday night in Wasilla, bringing the men onstage to sign clemency documents as he highlighted major energy investments and infrastructure projects in the Last Frontier.

Trump identified Zachary Czubak and Patrick Fleming, two co-owners of anAnchoragediesel repair shop whopleaded guilty to conspiracyto violate the Clean Air Act in 2022.

\"I'm giving each one of the three an unconditional pardon,\" Trump told supporters, also referring to an earlier pardon for Mackenzie \"Mac\" Spurlock, a Wasilla diesel shop owner.

The president defended the men, saying their work helped keep trucks operating in Alaska's extreme cold and arguing that their Biden-era prosecutions were unfair.

According to the BidenJustice Department, Czubak and Fleming were among three co-owners of \"Arm Rippin Toys\" who admitted removing federally required emissions-control equipment andtampering with monitoring deviceson at least 37 diesel vehicles between July 2019 and September 2020.

The shop collected approximately $100,000 for the modifications, federal prosecutors said at the time.

As he signed the clemency documents, Trump took a jab at former President Joe Biden'suse of an autopen.

\"So I'm going to sign this now, something that Joe Biden would be unable to do because he was unable to sign his signature,\" Trump said.

TRUMP COMMUTES SENTENCE FOR FORMER PHILADELPHIA UNION OFFICIAL, ATTORNEY SAYS

He also shared candidly the privilege of the presidential pardon power with the crowd.

\"What an honor. I love doing this stuff,\" Trump said.

One of the men thanked the president from the stage, describing the personal impact of the prosecution.

\"It really did destroy us. It destroyed friendships. It destroyed families,\" he said.

The pardons came during a rally in which Trump made a series of major announcements aboutAlaska's energy future, including declaring that a long-awaited 800-mile natural gas pipeline had secured every necessary federal permit.

\"Every single permit that you need, you can start tonight,\" Trump told the crowd. \"Every single permit that you need has been granted.\"

Fox News Digital reached out to the White House for additional details on theproject's federal permittingstatus.

Federal prosecutors say they offered to remove the emission control systems in customers' vehicles for a fee of $1,140 to $5,445, in part by modifying their physical components and preventing their diagnostics systems from noticing a problem, causing the vehicles to spew more pollutants.\nAll three men pleaded guilty to conspiracy to violate the Clean Air Act in 2022. They were each sentenced to five years of probation, $66,000 in fines and community service.\nDuring Tuesday's pre-midterm election rally in Wasilla, Mr. Trump called Czubak and Fleming onto the stage and said to an aide: \"Bring me the pardons!\"\n\"Think of it: They want to put them in jail for 10 years because they fixed an engine. How sick?\" the president said. \"Now if you murder somebody, no problem. Unless a Republican does the murdering. Then it's, you know, the electric chair, right?\"\nMr. Trump signed the pardons at the podium and handed them to Czubak and Fleming, drawing cheers from rallygoers as the president held one of the pardons up to the crowd.\nThe president said he was also \"taking care of\" a third person. He did not name the other person, but the third co-owner of Arm Rippin Toys, Hanzuk, received a pardon last month.\n\"When you give somebody a pardon, they say that means, and I don't know how this works and why it's an expression, but it's well-used, that means you're as clean as a newborn baby's ass,\" the president said. \"I never understood that. Why is that so clean?\"\nCzubak and Fleming briefly addressed the crowd, with Fleming saying the charges against the three \"really did destroy us.\"\n\"We're not criminals. We're not trying to hurt anybody,\" he said. \"We want to help Alaskans. We want to help people with diesel trucks, with vehicles, across the world.\"\nCBS News has reached out to Czubak, Fleming and Hanzuk's attorneys for comment.\nEarlier this year, Mr. Trump granted a pardon to Mac Spurlock, another diesel mechanic who was also charged with violating the Clean Air Act by removing pollution control systems — a case that the president mentioned during Tuesday's rally.\nSpurlock and his supporters, including GOP Sen. Dan Sullivan of Alaska, argue the engine modifications that he performed were necessary to prevent emissions systems from malfunctioning due to Alaska's frigid weather.\nSullivan applauded Spurlock's pardon in July, calling the charges the work of \"overzealous federal prosecutors\" and arguing the Environmental Protection Agency's rules should be modified to account for cold-weather states. Tuesday's rally was held in part to help Sullivan fend off a challenge from Democratic candidate Mary Peltola.\nThe Justice Department announced in January it would \"no longer pursue criminal charges under the Clean Air Act based on allegations of tampering with onboard diagnostic devices.\"\nDuring the Biden administration, officials took a different tack, warning in a statement on the Arm Rippin Toys charges that cutting out emissions controls \"results in a massive increase in air pollution from even a single vehicle.\" Scot Adair, former special agent in charge of the EPA's Criminal Investigation Division in Alaska vowed to \"hold accountable those who jeopardize human health and the environment for the sake of profit.\"\nMr. Trump and members of his administration have railed against other environmental regulations, relaxing fuel economy standards and ending an EPA policy that gave credits to car manufacturers that installed start-stop emissions systems.\nThe president has also frequently used his pardon power to grant clemency to political allies and people who — like him — argue they were wrongly prosecuted.","87e889c8276f716ff368b6d10d66ead43eeb03f8e697a92383679723f78ad11c","7a0182235a34bd4b4e8d51fee23985674dd11b4b0a7c344ecd2408c80c9c8a30db07aca64ac6126b5844de57da736548e439a69a2a4e72484714246ea155438c",[118,119,120,121,122],"6759f7a309cd07f7abfe0c57ab4e0ff30ffcd68d9c744d403f22e2428df23738","Trump
