He became the first Bears quarterback to throw for more than 300 yards in consecutive games since Mitch Trubisky had a three-game run in 2018.\n“It’s amazing [having Williams on the field]. His leadership, his competitiveness, everyone around here feels it. He gets us going,” said Bears running back D’Andre Swift after the game.\nWilliams outdueled Maye in their second meeting since the longtime friends were part of the 2024 NFL draft. Williams went No 1 to Chicago, and Maye was selected by New England at No 3.\nLuther Burden had four catches for 130 yards for Chicago (5-2), and Colston Loveland had a 12-yard touchdown reception. Cairo Santos kicked a 58-yard field goal with 1:34 left, a career long and matching the franchise record, after he missed a 53-yard attempt earlier in the final quarter. That made it 30-21 but Maye then drove New England into range for Andy Borregales’s 47-yarder with 37 seconds to go. However, Chicago recovered the ensuing onside kick and ran down the clock.\nMaye was 24 for 31 for 321 yards and two touchdowns. He also threw a costly interception in the end zone in the first half.\nNew England (4-3) had won three consecutive games behind Maye, who threw 10 TD passes and one interception during the win streak. Rhamondre Stevenson had five catches for 93 yards and a touchdown for the Patriots. Eli Raridon had a 30-yard TD catch in the third quarter.\nIt was Chicago’s first home game since Mike Ditka died on 9 October. The Bears saluted the Hall of Fame tight end and longtime coach with a pregame moment of silence, and they also handed out fake mustaches to the crowd of 60,520 at Soldier Field. Ditka’s No 89 jersey dotted the stands, and fans also donned Bears sweaters in a callback to the gear he wore on the sideline as a coach.\nThe Bears jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first quarter thanks to a Santos 43-yard field goal and Swift’s four-yard touchdown run.\nNew England responded when Maye scored on a seven-yard run early in the second quarter, but Santos made a 31-yard field goal to give Chicago a 13-7 lead.\nThe teams traded touchdowns in the final 14 seconds of the half. After Williams connected with Burden for a 24-yard TD pass, New England scored on a 48-yard pass from Maye to Stevenson with no time remaining on the clock. Stevenson caught the pass on the Chicago 47 and eluded several defenders on his way to the end zone. Borregales made the extra point, which pulled the Patriots closer at 20-14. Chicago extended the margin to 27-14 when Loveland capped the second half’s opening drive with a 12-yard TD catch, but New England answered with a 30-yard scoring pass from Maye to Raridon on the ensuing drive.","2b7b53414c8c847c7392cbf1ad810c7d2cad5eeaf74498f04e325d073c8a1ca9","sig","bbd3b6e9df65c51a700f309fb4d75e30fb8776c703b7ee1163ce0acacc7437fc13c50504e228825a0929df60cf072efb9679298c5266dd057408ee093747c2f9","kind",[68,69,70,71,72],"pubkey","c70c3496af43d505c85c2c54b4792401b1620ba0b7793cc8e68348d7f2a209da","content","Caleb Williams outduels friend and rival Drake Maye as Bears beat Patriots\nCaleb Williams threw for 308 yards and two touchdowns, and the Chicago Bears cooled off Drake Maye and the New England Patriots with a 30-24 win on Thursday night.\n\n\nnostr:naddr1qvzqqqr4gupzp3cvxjt27s74qhy9ctz5k3ujgqd3vg96pdme8nywdq6g6le2yzw6qqjrgvrpvycnqdfs94sk2ve3956xxvnp95unswps94nrvcesvv6nyv34v5cny9w2jd6 ","created_at",1792737709,[46,32],[79,38],[76,77,74,78],[75,74],[73,63,74],"p","","client","a","30023:c70c3496af43d505c85c2c54b4792401b1620ba0b7793cc8e68348d7f2a209da:40aa1050-ae31-4c2a-9880-f6c0c5225e12","mention","image","0fce0c18-9d20-4416-a2cf-0f8077acca83","Drake Maye's end-zone interception proves costly as Patriots fall 30-24 to Bears in primetime","The Chicago Bears defeated the New England Patriots 30-24, with Caleb Williams throwing for 308 yards and two touchdowns. Ben Johnson and Caleb Williams showed NFL fans once again that they're a match made in heaven.

Chicago didn't give theNew England Patriotsmuch of a shot in Week 7's Thursday night matchup. The Bears comfortably beat the Pats, 30-24, improving to 5-2.

In a game decided by just six points, Drake Maye leaving guaranteed points on the turf with a killer second-quarter end-zone pick loomed large. It forced New England into chase mode all night. It was Maye's third INT in the end zone this season.

BEARS VS. PATRIOTS THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL PREVIEW AND WHY THE OVER 50.5 IS THE BEST PLAY

New England almost went into the halftime break facing a scary deficit, if not for a 48-yard TD run by Pats RBRhamondre Stevenson. Chicago's defense fell asleep at the wheel; an effort on D unbecoming of this franchise.

In his second game back from ahamstring injury, Caleb continued to ride an offensive groove, throwing for 308 yards (22-of-32) and two touchdowns.

BEARS QB CALEB WILLIAMS SHUTS DOWN REPORTERS ASKING ABOUT HIS HAMSTRING INJURY: 'IT'S NOT DESERVING'

On theAl Michaelsfront — the play-by-play icon had another sleepy outing, stumbling through a few sequences, including calling a Pats \"fumble\" that never occurred. The 81-year-old broadcaster also mistook Williams and Maye for QBs from the \"class of 2014.\" They were drafted in 2024.

Chicago extinguished New England's last-minute comeback bid courtesy of exceptional clock management by coach Johnson and a nail-in-the-coffin, career-best 58-yard field goal from Cairo Santos. The kick let the former Vrabel disciple stick it to his old boss, leaving the Patriots coach grimacing on the sideline knowing he'd been out-dueled.

Maye finished with 321 passing yards (24-of-31) with two touchdowns and that costly turnover.

Courtesy of the NFL scheduling gods, Vrabel and the Patriots have a prime get-right spot against the Dolphins in Week 8 after dropping to 4-3.
