Whether an independent-minded Republican can survive in a purple Pennsylvania district could provide clues.

Brian Fitzpatrick doesn’t like the Republican Party, or either party for that matter. The congressman from Bucks County, Pennsylvania, has voiced “disdain for ideologues and partisans.” In a perfect world, everyone, including him, would be independent. He considers Democratic Gov. Josh Shapiro a friend, thinks Shapiro has served the state well, and hopes he runs for president in 2028.
