TheMinnesota Timberwolvestook a big injury hit on Tuesday, as All-Star guard Anthony Edwards will undergo an arthroscopic procedure to repair his right knee.

As a result, he will need to be sidelined two months, according to ESPN.

Edwards was deemed questionable for the Timberwolves’ Monday night contest against the Cleveland Cavaliers, which was the second half of a back-to-back.

However, he played a full 41 minutes, dropping 47 points, though Minnesota fell to Cleveland, 127-125, in overtime.

The initial injury presumably came during the Timberwolves’ win over theToronto Raptorson Sunday, as he was seen grabbing at that right knee. Head coach Chris Finch called Edwards’ injury a \"daily situation\" after the injury designation.

The main thing was Finch didn’t seem too worried this would be more serious than a day-to-day ailment. Instead, Edwards will need to miss significant time.

Edwards dealt with runner’s knee on the same leg last season, which forced him to miss time at the back end of the regular season. He also suffered a hyperextended left knee during the first round of the playoffs, where they defeated theDenver Nuggetsin six games.

Edwards missed a total 21 games last year, which was the most in his career. Hoping for better health this season, Edwards said he took time during the summer to let his knees rest. During training camp, there were no issues.

The two-time All-NBA selection was playing very well across four games. He became just the fourth player in NBA history with 45-or-more-point performances through his team’s first four games, with his opening night 47-point contest against the Miami Heat.

Finch will need to lean on his depth now, with Ayo Dosunmu and Bones Hyland perhaps filling the gap Edwards leaves as he recovers from surgery.

The Timberwolves will be looking toward others on the starting five, including LaMelo Ball in his first season in Minnesota, to lead the way as well.

A more precise timetable for Edwards’ return will be known after surgery, the person said.\nEdwards had been listed on recent injury reports with a right knee issue. Periodic knee pain has dogged him for some time, though the specifics of the current problem were not clear. The Timberwolves had listed him as questionable for their game against Golden State on Wednesday, before the decision was evidently made to go forward with the surgery.\nEdwards was off to a flying start this season, averaging 33.3 points and leading Minnesota to three wins in their first four games. He scored 45 points in the season-opening win at Miami, then had 47 points in a loss to Cleveland on Monday night. His 133 points through the first four games is a Timberwolves record, breaking the old mark of 120 – set by him two seasons ago.\nBut there were some signs that all was not right. Edwards had a two-handed transition dunk late in the first half of Minnesota’s win over Toronto on Sunday, seemed to head down to the defensive end very gingerly after that play, then spent the next Timberwolves offensive possession standing in the right corner and squeezing his knee for a few seconds.\nIf he is out for two months, that would mean he remains sidelined until around Christmas – when Minnesota play an Oklahoma City team that also have major injury concerns. The Thunder lost Jalen Williams (leg, ankle) and Cason Wallace (shoulder) earlier this week; both will have surgery that could be season-ending.\nA two-month absence would also sideline Edwards for around 25 games, meaning he would again fall short of the NBA’s 65-game threshold for end-of-season awards such as the All-NBA team and MVP.\nEdwards was limited to 61 games last season, mostly because of knee-related issues. It was the first season in which he missed any significant time; Edwards missed 19 out of a possible 400 games in his first five NBA seasons.\nThe four-time All-Star, two-time All-NBA pick and member of the 2024 US Olympic team that won gold at the Paris Games has averaged 24.6 points in his career. Since Edwards entered the league, only the Los Angeles Lakers’ Luka Dončić, Denver’s Nikola Jokić, Oklahoma City’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Miami’s Giannis Antetokounmpo have scored more points than the No 1 overall pick in the 2020 draft.","2231e854335c91c1fbe1c40be20e9b0e32a0940b3b636f8b6fbbab957edee089","6ff203f9f67ffac0c98d7329b7440225224f590acff494c64413df098f0e4f9c4bdc29aa649e2a07a895b8afa0d1eeca793376201ec26edc8b2b6b46956cf9ef",[96,97,98,99,100],"c70c3496af43d505c85c2c54b4792401b1620ba0b7793cc8e68348d7f2a209da","Anthony
