She now has a double-double in each game of the finals.\n“It feels good when you’re in the finals. It’s a long season and you play against everybody and go through and push through, but when you can do it at the highest level, this is what you live for, this is what the offseason is for,” Reese said. “I put the work in for this moment and I’m just happy I could lead the team to a win. We’re feeling good going into Saturday.”\nWith the game tied at 49 in the third quarter, Atlanta scored eight straight, including four by Reese. Golden State got within 59-55 on Tiffany Hayes’ layup, but could get no closer as Atlanta closed the quarter by scoring 12 of the final 14 points.\nAtlanta have dominated the third quarter so far in the series, outscoring Golden State 63-35 across the three games.\nWith Atlanta up 17 in the fourth quarter, Jordin Canada overthrew Reese on the break, but she saved the ball by throwing it over her head underneath the basket to Howard, who was fouled.\nGolden State could never recover. Gabby Williams scored 15 points and Hayes added 14 for the Valkyries.\nThis game was originally scheduled to be played on Thursday at the Gateway Center Arena, where the Dream play most of their home games. The league was able to work with the Atlanta Hawks and State Farm Arena to play the next two games of the championship series there so that they could have a much bigger crowd. Gateway seats only 3,500. State Farm Arena can seat more than 17,000 fans.\n“Protect home court,” Howard said of the team’s focus. “Giving our fans a show. We fought for this arena so we had to protect it. It’s big. We went and stole one but we can’t let them come in and do the same thing.”\nWednesday night’s game was sold out, as is Game 4 on Saturday, which will also be played at State Farm Arena. The crowd included several music stars, including Ludacris and 2 Chainz, as well as actor Kerry Washington.\nFormer NBA player Enes Kanter Freedom said he was going to be at the game. The Atlanta Dream and State Farm Arena offered him a private suite for his protection. He refused to sit in it and was removed from the game.\nThe game got off to a slow start as Atlanta led 9-1 after the first five minutes. Golden State missed their first eight shots before Aminata Gueye scored the first basket for the Valkyries with 4:39 left. They got within 13-10 before Naz Hillmon hit consecutive three-pointers and then Reese hit one. The Dream led 23-15 after the opening quarter.\nThe hot three-point shooting continued in the second quarter as Atlanta built their lead to 37-26 midway through the period. Golden State were able to hang around and trailed only 46-40 at the break as the teams combined to shoot 15-for-31 (48%) from behind the arc. That was more made three-pointers in the first 20 minutes than in either Game 1 or Game 2.\nReese had 15 points and WNBA sixth woman of the year Janelle Salaun had 11 for the Valkyries.\nGames 1 and 2 had huge ratings, with the opener on NBC averaging 2.1 million viewers, the most ever to watch the first game of the finals. Game 2, which was broadcast on USA Network, averaged 1.33 million viewers.","0d5151c7b9321051fbd07ec0bae2873055e72f7a78eca658f7ef8269ea0af9bb","sig","a0d35e71f451c51c499a4425584944eef585bb8a9746c9377c0b4682f189d29e427b83774df63887a601588b5cf083d2a5ed5f1e00d61aae8d591a418af6b97e","kind",[68,69,70,71,72],"pubkey","c70c3496af43d505c85c2c54b4792401b1620ba0b7793cc8e68348d7f2a209da","content","Angel Reese Stars Again as Atlanta Dream Thrash Valkyries to Seize WNBA Finals Lead\nAngel Reese had 21 points and 12 rebounds to help the Atlanta Dream beat the Golden State Valkyries 97-71 on Wednesday night and take a 2-1 lead in the WNBA finals.\n\n\nnostr:naddr1qvzqqqr4gupzp3cvxjt27s74qhy9ctz5k3ujgqd3vg96pdme8nywdq6g6le2yzw6qqjrgvfh8q6n2wp495eryceh956rjwp3943xgerx95unqvt9ve3ngcfh89snvrldthm ","created_at",1792651324,[46,32],[79,38],[76,77,74,78],[75,74],[73,63,74],"p","","client","a","30023:c70c3496af43d505c85c2c54b4792401b1620ba0b7793cc8e68348d7f2a209da:41785585-22c7-4981-bddf-901efc4a79a6","mention","image","c36f8a81-aca5-4596-a963-5c0c2b37f35c","Angel Reese delivers another double-double as Atlanta Dream take 2–1 lead in WNBA Finals","Angel Reese recorded 21 points and 12 rebounds, leading the Atlanta Dream to a 97-71 victory over the Golden State Valkyries, giving the Dream a 2-1 lead in the WNBA Finals. ATLANTA – Angel Reese helped theAtlanta Dreamwin a WNBA Finals game for the first time Monday. Two nights later, she helped them take their first lead in a Finals series.

ATLANTA DREAM, GOLDEN STATE VALKYRIES SKIP NATIONAL ANTHEM FOR THIRD STRAIGHT WNBA FINALS GAME

Reese finished with 21 points and 12 rebounds as Atlanta beat theGolden State Valkyries97-71 on Wednesday night at State Farm Arena, taking a 2–1 lead in the best-of-seven series. Reese has totaled 51 points and 28 rebounds in Atlanta’s two victories.

Reese became the youngest player in WNBA Finals history to record at least 20 points and 10 rebounds in consecutive games, joining A’ja Wilson as the only players to accomplish the feat.

And to give the Dream and their fans credit, Ipreviously questionedwhether Atlanta could fill State Farm Arena for the Finals. They answered that with a resounding yes on Wednesday night. Game 3 was a sellout, and the building was loud.

Before tip-off, both teams again left the court for the national anthem, marking theirthird straight absence in the series. They returned moments after the performance ended. The WNBA’s rulebook calls for players, coaches and trainers to stand and line up during the anthem, and the league has not answered OutKick’s questions about the absences.

Once the game started, Reese picked up where she left off in San Francisco. She scored Atlanta’s first basket and finished the opening quarter with eight points, including a three-pointer that pushed the Dream’s lead to 22–12.

Golden State missed its first eight shots and didn’t make a field goal until 4:38 remained in the first quarter. Atlanta led 23–15 after one.

Reese added another three in the second quarter and went into halftime with 15 points, matching her first-half total from Game 2. Naz Hillmon made three first-half threes of her own, helping Atlanta take a 46–40 lead into the break.

The Valkyries made a push to start the third. Cecilia Zandalasini hit two threes in the opening 68 seconds, and Golden State tied the game at 48, then again at 49.

Reese helped Atlanta answer. After Rhyne Howard put the Dream back in front, Reese made two free throws, assisted on an Isobel Borlase layup and scored on a running layup herself. That completed an 8–0 run and gave Atlanta a 57–49 lead.

Golden State cut the deficit to four, but the Dream kept scoring after Reese went to the bench with 3:31 left in the quarter. DeWanna Bonner hit a three to start a 12–2 finish to the period, scoring five points during that stretch.

ANGEL REESE DOMINATES GAME 2 AS ATLANTA DREAM EVEN WNBA FINALS WITH GOLDEN STATE VALKYRIES

Atlanta led 71–57 entering the fourth and Golden State never really threatened in the final period.

Hillmon finished with 15 points, while Jordin Canada added 8 assists. Rhyne Howard had her best offensive performance of the series, scoring 16 points.

Atlanta again held down Golden State’s Gabby Williams, who finished with 15 points on 5-of-18 shooting.

Atlanta entered these Finals without a win in its three previous appearances, then lost Saturday’s opener. Now Reese and the Dream are two victories from a championship.

Game 4 is Saturday at State Farm Arena.
