Replays showed that Brewers shortstop Cooper Pratt’s right foot was slightly off the bag when he reached to catch a high throw from second baseman Brice Turang.\n“You have a big range of emotions,” Milwaukee captain Christian Yelich said. “It’s a big credit to Trev for locking back in right there and making some huge pitches after you have that emotional dump and then have to get back on it.”\nJacob Misiorowski allowed one run and four hits over five innings to earn the victory.\n“Not perfect, but good enough to get a win,” he said.\nYelich hit a run-scoring triple to spark a two-run rally in the first inning that put the Brewers ahead for good and delighted a sellout crowd reveling in Milwaukee’s first World Series game since 1982. Jackson Chourio and William Contreras each had two hits, including an RBI single. Contreras also threw out two runners trying to steal.\nIt was the first World Series featuring two teams seeking their first championship since 1980, when the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Kansas City Royals in six games. The only other major league clubs without a World Series title are the Colorado Rockies, San Diego Padres and Seattle Mariners.\nThe Game 1 winner has gone on to win the World Series 62.8% of the time.\nTampa Bay trailed 3-1 and had not put a runner on base since the sixth inning until mounting a comeback attempt in the ninth.\nJonathan Aranda and Chandler Simpson hit consecutive one-out singles off Megill. A double steal involving pinch-runner Jorge Mateo and Simpson put the potential tying run in scoring position with Rays slugger Junior Caminero at the plate. Caminero walked on a 3-2 pitch in the dirt to load the bases.\nHicks hit a grounder to the right side, and Turang ranged well to his left to field the ball before throwing to Pratt to start what was initially ruled a game-ending double play.\nFireworks went off, players poured onto the field and Milwaukee fans roared – before the crowd hushed as it watched the play again on the videoboard.\nA replay review determined Pratt’s right foot came off the bag as he caught Turang’s throw. Hicks was still out at first, but the Rays now had runners at second and third with the score 3-2.\n“I thought Coop had him, and obviously I was wrong,” Misiorowski said.\nMegill finally sealed the win as DeLuca struck out swinging.\n“You just have to lock it back in,” Yelich said. “It’s the World Series – you have to do what you have to do to make things happen.”\nBy sweeping the two-time defending World Series champions, the Los Angeles Dodgers, in the National League Championship Series, the Brewers had time to set up their rotation the way they wanted by handing the Game 1 start to Misiorowski, the hard-throwing NL Cy Young Award favorite.\nMisiorowski opened the game by throwing the fastest pitch ever delivered in a World Series, a 103.5mph ball to Yandy Díaz. The right-hander finished with a season-low three strikeouts.\nWhile Milwaukee started with their ace, Tampa Bay countered with Nick Martinez to give two-time All-Star pitchers Drew Rasmussen and Freddy Peralta an extra day of rest. Martinez struck out five and allowed two runs over five innings, but a slow start proved costly.\nChourio lined a single to right field on Martinez’s first pitch, and Yelich drove him home with a one-out triple to centre. DeLuca covered 85ft to track down Yelich’s drive but just missed making a diving catch as the ball glanced off his glove.\nYelich was batting third in the lineup for the first time since 3 August. The three-time All-Star and 2018 NL MVP posted the lowest on-base percentage (.315) and OPS (.692) of his career, but he has stepped up his game since being named the first team captain in franchise history during the final week of the regular season.\nHe was the seventh player to triple in his first World Series plate appearance, and the first since Kansas City’s Lynn Jones in 1985, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.\nContreras knocked home Yelich with a line-drive single to left that was deflected by shortstop Taylor Walls with the infield playing in.\nTampa Bay got a run back in the fourth.\nAranda drew a leadoff walk and advanced to third when Caminero doubled on a one-out liner with a 112.7mph exit velocity that sailed over centre fielder Garrett Mitchell and off his outstretched glove. Aranda came home on Hicks’ groundout to the right side.\nMilwaukee extended their lead to 3-1 in the seventh. Pratt drew a leadoff walk from Steven Matz and scored from second when Chourio greeted Kevin Kelly with a two-out single.\nThat insurance run proved critical.\n“The guys settled in right away and did a great job,” Yelich said. “We still have a ways to go, but it’s nice to get that first one.”","d7d0e6da03fc7af050367cbd61b3c654a5ce616f0bcc4bb31b5b24e38219f0e5","sig","66a2d7ece3ca1dbc379db0d8952e9e38896a421bad7d2872843c7bf1d89502146af51ffc5fdef106347d31c3b0f64af572cd1f762dda708fff117e566dfd2940","kind",[68,69,70,71,72],"pubkey","c70c3496af43d505c85c2c54b4792401b1620ba0b7793cc8e68348d7f2a209da","content","Brewers survive chaotic ninth-inning replay drama to beat Rays in World Series opener\nBrewers claim 3-2 victory in Game 1 of World Series\n\n\nnostr:naddr1qvzqqqr4gupzp3cvxjt27s74qhy9ctz5k3ujgqd3vg96pdme8nywdq6g6le2yzw6qqjxzdfhx5enwdfh95ck2ep5956rxenp95uxydfh95mxvve5xfjnsepkxp3xgajtvjt ","created_at",1792824121,[46,32],[79,38],[76,77,74,78],[75,74],[73,63,74],"p","","client","a","30023:c70c3496af43d505c85c2c54b4792401b1620ba0b7793cc8e68348d7f2a209da:a5753757-1ed4-43fa-8b57-6f342e8d60bd","mention","image","173e00f9-e3fd-41d3-b205-357fef63f9ec","Brewers rally past chaotic late-game replay, premature celebrations to win first World Series game in 44 years","The Milwaukee Brewers secured their first World Series game victory since 1982, defeating the Tampa Bay Rays 3-2 in Game 1. The Brew Crew took Game 1 of the Fall Classic over theTampa Bay Raysin a sweaty 3-2 ballgame.

Down two, the Rays loaded the bases with one out in the ninth, but Liam Hicks grounded into what initially was ruled a game-ending double play. However, replay showed shortstop Cooper Pratt came off second base, instead making it a 3-2 game with runners on second and third and two outs.

The Brewers had already ignited their fireworks, creating a chaotic, fog-filled scene, before Johnny DeLuca came to the plate and struck out to end the game.

2026 WORLD SERIES: HOW TO WATCH BREWERS AND RAYS AFTER SMALL BALL CARRIES THEM TO FALL CLASSIC

The city of Milwaukee waited 46 years to see its team in the Fall Classic, and this year's Brewers wanted to stop wasting time. An RBI triple byChristian Yelich, followed by a William Contreras single, put the Brewers up 2-0 in the first inning. However, that was all they'd get for a while, as Nick Martinez settled down to get through five innings of work.

The Milwaukee pitching, though, was just as good. Soon-to-be Cy Young Award winner Jacob Misiorowski held the Rays to just one run in his five innings, but certainly not without the help of some Rays baserunning blunders.

Tampa Bay had runners on first and second with one out in the first, but Junior Caminero lined out, and Jonathan Aranda was doubled off at second to end the threat. In the fifth, Victor Mesa Jr. was caught stealing at third for the final out of the inning, a big baseball no-no.

The Brewers matched that mistake with one of their own almost immediately, as nine-hitter David Hamilton made the first out at third in the bottom half of the frame trying to stretch a double into a triple.

But they got a huge insurance run after some more typical Brewers small ball. In the seventh, Hamilton got a productive second out to get a runner into scoring position, and Jackson Chourio drove him in with an opposite-field, ground-ball single to make it 3-1. No team in the league went oppo and hit grounders at a higher rate than the Brewers in the regular season.

Milwaukee will have Logan Henderson on the bump on Saturday night, while Drew Rasmussen will toe the slab for Tampa Bay.
